Syrian Troops Enter Druze City Of Sweida After Violent Clashes

Syrian troops have entered the southern Druze city of Sweida to impose a curfew after clashes are said to have killed nearly 100 people, with Israel striking army tanks in a warning against harming the minority.
Government forces began deploying in the city after an agreement with Druze religious leaders to end some of the deadliest fighting in Syria since March, when the new government put down an insurrection by another minority, the Alawis, that ended in massacres of civilians.
Israel — which has a population of Druze and has attempted to portray itself as a protector of the religious group — carried out airstrikes on government tanks on Monday.
